Do you have a creative child with tons of energy at home? Then this DIY is sure to be an absolute hit!
Line from the fantastic craft account @congebricole came up with a super fun activity to bring a very special vegetable to life: Freddie Broccoli: the b-rock star from the interactive book De Brock-‘n-roll Show!
In the book, you choose how Freddie’s adventure unfolds. Will it be a roaring performance or a hilarious flop? One thing is for sure: with this creative craft adventure, you’ll definitely make Freddie shine — right on your wall, fridge, or bulletin board!

What do you need?
- Green paper (for the body)
- Red paper (for the scarf)
- Bubble wrap (for the hair)
- Green paint
- Glue
- Scissors
- Markers, pens, or colored pencils (for face and details)
All materials can also be found in the Congé Bricolé webshop.
How to make your own Freddie Broccoli

1. Make Freddie’s body
Take a piece of green paper and cut it into a broccoli stem, that’s Freddie’s body! Is this still a bit too difficult? Let your child draw the shape with a pencil first, or draw it yourself so it only needs to be cut out. It really doesn’t have to be perfect (the crazier, the better – Freddie loves all rock 'n' roll shapes!). Then glue the stem onto a piece of paper.
2. Give him a cool scarf
Now cut a scarf out of red paper. Here too, it can be helpful to draw it on paper first. Glue the scarf about halfway down the stem.
3. Make his broccoli hair
Cut a piece of bubble wrap in the shape of Freddie's hair and glue it onto his body (Tip: think of the shape of a cloud!). Paint it green and let it dry. No bubble wrap at home? Use a crumpled piece of green crepe paper or simply paint a large green curl. Anything goes!
4. Draw his face, arms, and legs
Use a marker or pencil to draw Freddie’s eyes, nose, mouth, arms, and legs. Extra fun: Let him wave, dance, or play guitar!
Extra tips:
- Use a reference picture of Freddie from the book or print an image of Freddie for inspiration.
- Glue everything onto an extra-large sheet (A4 or larger), so children can easily draw and glue without worrying about space.
- Let children come up with what Freddie says or sings.
Write it down as a speech bubble!
