“Emoties mogen er zijn” - Een recensie van pedagoog Romy Thomas

"Emotions are allowed to be there" - A review by educator Romy Thomas

We hear it often: our books do much more than just bring a smile. They invite talking, feeling, and discovering. About emotions, food, and everything in between. Sometimes we receive a message that perfectly encapsulates that feeling, so much so that we just have to share it.

In this blog, we share a review from Romy Thomas: an educator and child language expert, who daily helps parents truly connect with their child.

Romy Thomas's review

“HÖNGRY’s books are a big hit here at home. My daughter is captivated from the first to the last page by the fun story and by the emotions the main characters experience. Precisely because she recognizes those emotions, but sometimes still searches for words to express what she feels.

And that's exactly the strength of these books: they show that emotions are allowed to exist and should be felt. As an educator and child language expert, I strongly encourage that.

In addition, the stories playfully bring fruits and vegetables to life. For example, the eggplant was quite unfamiliar here, but thanks to HÖNGRY, it has now become a well-known vegetable. During dinner, we now regularly make connections to the stories. That truly makes eating more enjoyable, especially at times when they are less inclined.

In short: I wholeheartedly recommend these books to any parent who wants to playfully contribute to their child's social-emotional development.”

What these words mean to us

What Romy describes here is exactly what we want to achieve with our stories: to show children (and parents) that emotions do not have to be suppressed. They are allowed to be there.
Whether it's Robby Raspberry being angry, Nacho Corn Cob gathering courage, or Gina Eggplant learning to love herself: in every book there is a piece of recognition, humor, and space to talk about feelings together.

The fact that our books also help to positively draw attention to fruits and vegetables is the icing on the (fruity) cake!
